The course explores and tests (through required field-based clinical activities) leadership skills and strategies necessary for effective school leadership. The student engages in an in-depth review of the literature relevant to effective organizational change and analysis as a foundation for the development of change strategies. Students will identify issues affecting the school; leadership and organizational theory will frame the discussion of the issues.

    Course Description:  This course is designed to empower school administrators to mobilize community resources and create partnerships that enhance and drive a school culture where all youth can succeed. The changing school in the changing community will be discussed, as well as principles of maintaining a desirable relationship. This course will also discuss powerful avenues to current school/community challenges such as character education, school violence prevention, overcoming barriers to learning, and academic reinforcement.  
  • Resource Management in Education        

    Course Description: This course is designed to provide an examination of the theory and practice of human resource management and public school finance in relation to expenditures and resources at the local, state, and federal levels of support in school districts. It also provides an examination of social issues that impact the school learning environment, to include gender, quality, multicultural education, diversity; and privatization. It provides an in-depth study of the basic principles of money management in public education and how to manage it. There is a focus is on the management of dollars (fiscal), space (building operations), people (human resources), community resources (engagement) and time. Learning Objectives:

    Course Description:   This course will study the wide range of responsibilities of the principal as both manager and educational leader. Topics include establishing a common vision and purpose with stakeholders, working collaboratively to achieve common goals, developing a learner centered school culture, planning for the improvement of instruction, school finance management, supervising employees, providing a safe school environment, promoting student health and welfare, and initiating, managing, and evaluating change.

Matters having to do with leadership and organization of school personnel will be addressed.
