Course Description: The Hotel and Resort Management degree is designed for students with a career interest in the lodging and resort industries. Â The purpose of the Hotel and Resort Management program is to provide students with core competencies and experiential learning opportunities in preparation for successful management careers and leadership roles in the resort and hospitality industry. Students will engage in practical issues of quality and productivity of the utilities and facilities.
Learning Objectives: Students will:
- understand the different types of resorts.
- identify operational environmental standards for all types of resorts
- explain the techniques used in distributing activities and facilities in the resort.
- participate in resort design and understand master plan development.
- be familiar with management problem solving.
- learn how to manage the space and capacities within the resort.
- be familiar with various types of resorts.

Assessment
- This course will be assessed by two exams; a mid-term and final exam.
An optional practice exam will be provided early in the course.
- Students will submit responses to short essay questions at the end of each unit.
- Students will have a Capstone Project due at the end of the course.
During Unit 4, students should submit a brief overview of their Capstone Project.
Guidelines for the capstone Project are found in Unit 10.
