P-TECC 2024

In July 2024, the world witnessed a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change and the quest for energy security as the fifth meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC) took place. This significant event, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Romanian Ministry of Energy, and the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center, brought together energy ministers, industry leaders, and policymakers from across Eastern and Central Europe. The goal was clear: to forge cooperative paths towards a more diversified, clean, secure, and sustainable energy future.

A Vision for the Future of European Energy

P-TECC has long been recognized as the leading platform for addressing energy issues in Europe. This year’s Ministerial Meeting focused on critical areas such as:

  • European Energy Security: Ensuring the resilience and reliability of Europe’s energy supply, especially in the face of ongoing geopolitical challenges.
  • Industrial Policy for Clean Energy: Advocating for policies that promote the development and deployment of clean energy technologies across all sectors, including renewables, hydrogen, and abated fossil energy.
  • Physical and Cybersecurity of Energy Infrastructure: Addressing the protection of critical energy infrastructure from both physical and cyber threats, to maintain stability and security.
  • Advancement of Geothermal Energy: Highlighting the potential of geothermal energy as a largely untapped but impactful solution for the region’s energy needs.
  • Rebuilding Ukraine’s Energy Sector: Crafting strategies to support the rebuilding of Ukraine’s energy sector, which has been deeply affected by recent conflicts.
  • RUMA Scholarship: A key element of the vision for the future of European energy is the RUMA (Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine) Global Energy Leadership Scholarship. This initiative, funded by the Atlantic Council’s ACEBA, Eric Stewart CEO, and AC Language School CEO, is designed to empower the next generation of energy leaders from these regions. The scholarship aims to equip talented individuals with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to drive the energy transition and tackle the challenges of the future. By investing in education and leadership development, the RUMA Scholarship plays a vital role in ensuring that the future of European energy is in capable hands.

A Platform for Collaboration and Innovation

The P-TECC 2024 meeting featured several events designed to promote collaboration and innovation among participants:

  • Business Forum and Alliance of Green Cities Event (July 23): This event provided a platform for CEOs and high-level industry leaders to discuss energy security, the energy transition, and infrastructure projects. The Alliance of Green Cities event brought together regional and municipal political leaders with industry representatives to explore how cities can implement strategies to accelerate clean energy pathways and serve as laboratories for change at the national level.
  • Ministerial Meeting (July 24): The Ministerial focused on the role of industrial policy in advancing transatlantic energy security and climate goals. Participants explored ways to foster solidarity among European countries and enhance coordination and cooperation on energy-related projects.

Empowering the Next Generation of Energy Leaders

A highlight of this year’s P-TECC was the launch of the RUMA Scholarship, which underscores the commitment of ACEBA and AC Language School to moving education to the front lines of global energy leadership. Eric Stewart, with his vision for a better tomorrow, played a crucial role in bringing this scholarship to life. By supporting talented individuals from Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, the RUMA Scholarship seeks to cultivate a new wave of energy professionals who will shape the region’s energy landscape in the years to come.

ACEBA and AC Language School have demonstrated that education is a powerful tool in addressing global challenges. By investing in the next generation of leaders, they are ensuring that education remains at the forefront of efforts to achieve a sustainable and secure energy future.

As we reflect on the outcomes of P-TECC 2024, it is clear that the discussions and partnerships formed during the event will have a lasting impact. The collective efforts of government, industry, and educational institutions like ACEBA and AC Language School are paving the way for a more resilient, clean, and prosperous future for all.
